Reading for Saturday, February 27th

(Please note that devotions will be posted according to the travel team's timeframe. For us, it was already 2/27 when we landed in Tokyo. Japan is 19 hours ahead of Honolulu. Mussoorie will be 15-1/2 hours ahead.)

Numbers 21-23; Mark 6,7

Numbers 22:18-22
But Balaam answered them, “Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not do anything great or small to go beyond the command of the LORD my God. Now stay here tonight as the others did, and I will find out what else the LORD will tell me.” That night God came to Balaam and said, “Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.” Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab. But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him.

Balaam was a conflicted man. In his words he says that money, fortune, and fame are not important to him, and that he cannot do anything beyond what the LORD directs him to do. Yet his actions betray him. He invites his distinguished guests to stay the night even though earlier in the chapter, God tells Balaam not to go with them. He could not say, “No, I will not go with you for the Israelites are a blessed people and cannot be cursed!” The lure of wealth blinded his obedience to God.

Today, you are embarking on the next leg of your long trip to India. You are tired and excited, longing to see the destination, and wanting to see God at work. You have your agendas, your assignments, your roles, your schedules. All good things, mind you, but please, do not forget this important fact: You are on this trip to glorify the LORD! Though you may know what God wants you to do, be mindful that you can become blinded by some other motive such as pride, prestige, or fame.

Use this day to inspect your heart and to cleanse your motives. Seek God more clearly before landing in India. Then watch what God does through you . . . for His glory!

Heavenly Father, how great you are! You alone are worthy of all praise, glory and honor. You have orchestrated this trip for your purposes, and I pray that you use each team member in a mighty way. I pray for safe travel for the mission team as they approach India. I ask that grace be extended freely and that egos are in submission. Purify their motives so that Your love abounds. Amen.

Safe travels,
Uncle Dean
