Reading for Saturday, March 6, 2010

Deuteronomy 3,4; Psalm 36; Mark 13

“To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him...know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.” --Deuteronomy 4:35,39

These chapters are awesome, please read them!! There are tons of incredible truths in this reading if you are willing to dig for them! But the verses above are what I feel the lord wants this devotional to be about.

Imagine this with me. Moses is going to die. He is not going to enter the promised land. And he is giving the first of his last words to the nation of Israel in these chapters. He is going on about idolatry in his speech when suddenly he says this, “...since the day that God created man on earth, ask from one end of heaven to another, whether such a great things this has happened or was ever heard of...” he was saying, “ask anybody, ask the full expanse of the heavens! And they will tell you that no one has EVER seen or even made up ANYTHING like this!” And then he tells them the incredible events that took place in Egypt. I try to visualize Moses' face full of emotion as he stood there in the desert as he retold the mighty works of God. I can see him with his eyes closed and his his voice tearing through the masses of Israelites as he remembered what God had done for them. Go read verses 32-34 of chapter four and feel the emotion of these words. No seriously, if someone has a bible on them read it before you go on. Done? Awesome yeah?! Okay, moving on :) Then Moses explains why these things where so powerful and meaningful. “To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him...”

And then later on, the command, “...know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.”

Incredible, absolutely incredible.

You guys are in India. You guys are on a mission. You guys desire to take some serious ground for the kingdom. And because you have been faithful in prayer (I hope) and diligent in your service to God, you are going to see some crazy things. You are going to see strongholds fall at your feet at the sound of the word of God. You are going to see mountains thrown into the sea by the smallest of faith. You are going to see the chains broken off of the slaves to sin and you are going to see those freed souls run into the arms of the loving Savior. YOU ARE GOING TO SEE GOD MOVE. And you are going to be amazed. My only exhortation is DON’T FORGET. Don't forget. Verse 39 “...lay it on your heart...” Catalog it to your soul. Engrave it into your mind. DON’T FORGET. Remember the works of God that you have seen. And remember that he is Lord of heaven and earth and he stands alone as God of the universe. Remember so that when it gets hard or you have doubts, you have a place to go to inwardly and say, “No, I remember the mighty works of the Lord. I’m going to press on and not lose heart because HE IS GOD.” That’s what Moses taught the Israelites and thats is what is going to get us through in the most hopeless of situations. DON’T FORGET.

Lord, you are so good to us, an undeserving people that you have loved. Thank you Father. Thank you for the mightiest and most glorious of all your gifts, Jesus, the most beautiful thing we have ever beheld. Thank you. Words cannot express that kind of love. Help us, Holy Spirit, to never forget the things you have done, the amazing, liberating, earth shattering things you do. I pray for all of my brothers and sisters who are in India right now. Be with them, Lord, let them know that you are with them. You are amazing, God. Be our Treasure that we would willingly and joyfully give our lives away to get. We love you.

I love you all! And if I have never met you I especially love you!! jk you guys are awesome, I cant wait to hear the stories.

Grace and Peace
Scotty :)
