Devotional Reading for Monday, April 13, 2015

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 14; 1 Chronicles 4; 2 Corinthians 13

Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men.  Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf.  Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” –1 Samuel 14:6

In boldness and courage, Jonathan and his armor-bearer leave their army and head for the Philistine outpost.  As they begin their journey, Jonathan’s confidence in the Lord’s power, strength, and sovereignty is revealed in his statement: “Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or few.” During their travels, there is no guarantee that God will act for them; yet, there is a guarantee that God can save in any circumstance. Their willingness to fight in the face of adversity and move into unfamiliar territory for the sake of God’s people shows a confidence in His indescribable goodness, power, and sovereignty.

India Team, you are the Jonathan of this age. You are traveling into unfamiliar territory and are made foreigners in another land on behalf of people whom God loves with more zeal than can be described and more depth than can be fathomed. You move with hope and expectation because you know that nothing can hinder our Lord from saving. You empower and encourage our brothers and sisters in India because you have confidence in the Lord’s goodness, power, sovereignty, and in His ability to save. You may face adversity and you may be outnumbered. But like Jonathan and his armor-bearer, you have a God who is for you—for His people—and for the expansion of His Kingdom. May you be encouraged in the work you are doing, the sacrifices you are making, and the victory that is already guaranteed. You are incredible warriors and servants of Christ!

Heavenly Father, Thank You for this team of God-fearing, God-adoring, and people-loving individuals who are so bold in giving so much of themselves for the sake of Your mission. Please cover them with protection, love, grace, and health. Please give them discernment and a spirit sensitive to the people they meet and to Your Spirit. In the face of adversity, give them peace, resiliency, and flexibility. Lord, please give them strength to do the things they need to do, joy to marvel at the relationships developing, and humility to receive from this journey. Thank You in advance for their safe-keeping and safe travels home. We love, love, love You and give You all the glory and honor.
