Devotional Reading for Sunday, April 10

Today's reading is 1 Samuel 8,9,10; and 2 Corinthians 10

When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons [Joel and Abijah] as Israel’s leaders. But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. –1 Samuel 8:1,3

Samuel listened to God all the days of his life, and through him God once again spoke to His children Israel. But for whatever reason, Samuel’s children did not follow Samuel’s example of listening and being obedient to God. They did what they wanted instead. And their actions caused Israel to reject God as their king and demand a king like the rest of the nations around them.

As you journey to India, be preparing your spirit for its own journey.  Be in constant prayer for the fruits of the spirit to be present in each of your actions.  Pray that you will be obedient to the direction of the Spirit instead of running ahead with your own plan. Even now as you are flying, take every though captive to make it obedient to Christ. Your mission does not begin when you set foot in Delhi; it has already begun.

Father God, you have endowed each one of these sojourners with a heart and a passion to serve their brothers and sisters in India. Give them safe passage through airports and city streets to bring them to their destination. As they travel, be preparing their hearts and minds to long for your word to guide them as their carry out their purpose here. Finally, give them a heart to put each other’s needs ahead of their own even as they begin to tire during the journey.  I pray in your precious Son’s name, Amen.

Reading for Saturday, April 9th

One of the encouraging parts of each mission trip is a survival guide that each team member carries with them.  It has a lot of helpful travel information, and it also contains spiritual insights from former team members in the form of daily devotions which follow the New Hope bookmark (or Life Journal Reading Plan for those of you with the YouVersion Bible App).  Today's reading is from 1 Samuel 6,7; Psalm 72; and 2 Corinthians 9.  And the SOAP Journal entry is shared by Chris Ogino, one of the pioneer team members and also a travel team member in 2008, 2011 and 2013.

He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them.  He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them.  He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him.  – Psalm 72:12-14

Who is HE? HE is Jesus. He is in YOU. He lives in YOU. Jesus WILL rescue the poor, through YOU. The children will cry to HIM through YOU. HE will help the oppressed through YOU.

Matthew 5:13-14 says, “You are the salt of the earth.  You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. For their lives are precious to HIM. And to YOU.

As you depart on God’s mission to live the gospel, prepare yourself — pray, get into the Word, seek godly counsel. Your journey began when you said, “YES, I will go.”  Look for God’s blessings everywhere!

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for your hedge of protection over all the missionaries heading to Mussoorie, India.  May You, LORD, go before them to clear the way. I ask in Your Son’s Name Jesus to protect the leaders of this mission: Pastor Creighton, Pastor Keane, Pastor Brett, and Karri.  May Your will be done on this mission You set out for all people. I pray that YOUR Word will reign throughout our cities to Your people, to Your children. I ask in Your Son’s Name Jesus to protect our missionaries as they travel from city to city. Thank You, Lord, for choosing these missionaries and for their families as we come together to pray until their return.
In Jesus’ Name we pray ~ Amen!
Jai Mashi ki - Praise the LORD!

Humble Service - India Impact

Humble Service as expressions of thanks to God

12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (2 Cor 9)

Paul has encouraged the Corinthians that their generosity and service is worship onto the Lord. As you humbly serve…giving life to others like only God can…it is an overflowing of the many things to God. Through your humble service…others will praise God.

As I leave for India, Lord give me your heart for your people. That this be not about myself…my comforts, my burdens, my time but this be an expression of my thanks to God. For His goodness and faithfulness in my life. All that I have and All that I am is because of Him. For me to serve Him in this way is small potatoes compared to what I have received. And I know that I cannot out give God…that as I in faith express my thanksgiving to Him…he will give me more than I can imagine in return. This is the depth of my Father's heart.

Lord thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve the team and the people of India. I know there are many anxieties, fears…Lord help me to get over myself and to humbly serve them. To not just worldly comfort but divine peace, divine encouragement and edification, divine revelation. I choose to cycle with you constantly. That I may level up on my game of cycling with you. Give me deep insight…give me gifts of the Spirit…flow through my mouth, my hands, my soul to shepherd your people. Cover my family as I release them to you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
